J. Coronado attended Texas State University, where he received his bachelor’s degree in Microbiology in 2016. After graduating, he worked for the genomic diagnostic company Veracyte before being accepted into the graduate program in Immunology and Infection at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, TX, in 2018. J. joined the laboratory of Dr. Yan Xiang to work on his master thesis project. His work concentrated on determining the underlying mechanism and functional significance of DNA binding by SAMD9 in relation to its activation and subsequent antiviral function. J. received his master’s degree in the summer of 2020 and was accepted into the Ph.D. program in the Biomedical Sciences at the University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas, TX, that same year. He joined the Reese lab in the spring of 2021, where he plans to advance his skills and knowledge in the fields of immunology and virology. In his free time, he likes to workout, shoot hoops, and play with his dog, Blue!
