Kazi obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Tokyo in 2013, then moved to the NIH to join the lab of Dr. Harvey Alter for a postdoctoral fellowship. He investigated the molecular mechanisms of HCV associated lymphoid-neoplasms. Kazi joined the Reese lab in 2023 as a Research Scientist.
